As a former community planner, I really appreciate how this piece moves past the “innovation district” buzz and gets to the structural realities that make ecosystems work. The emphasis on infrastructure beneath the hype, such as social, financial, and institutional factors, feels spot on. I especially liked the framing of retention as a form of ecosystem health. Building systems that help founders stay and grow locally is the urban planning equivalent of designing for livability, not just visibility.

This article comes at the perfect time! So insightful, you totally nail it. The focus on fundamentals over hype is spot on. What if we reimagined our entire system to genuinely foster long-term community value, beyond just chasing mythical unicorns? Collaboraton is key.
